Located on the southern tip of African continent, South Africa is a culturally, naturally, and historically rich country with an abundance of attractions suitable for people of all ages. Apart from being an ethnically diverse country, that has been witness to many a historical struggles, the country also features among some of the most bio diverse countries of the world. With over 20,000 different plants or about 10% of the total plant species known on Earth, it sure is a great place to go on a game drive. However, it is not just the jungles but several other places that make the country a must visit on any ardent traveler’s list. Containing some of the oldest archelogical and fssil sites of the world, you could well get a glance at one of the most extensive and oldest fossil remains in the caves of Gauteng Province, also known as the Cradle of Humankind. Not just this, there are four other World Heritage Sites listed by UNESCO that fall within the boundaries of this country-  Robben Island, St Lucia Wetland Park, uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park and the Vredefort Dome. Once a bone of contention between ancient British and Dutch settlers for its diamond and gold reserves, the country today stands tall for its economic progression, its freedom from apartheid as well as its mega diverse society that was once home to the infamous ‘slave trade’.
